Junk Mail/Fliers

The Direct Marketing Association’s (DMA) Mail Preference Service lets you opt out of receiving unsolicited commercial mail from many national companies for five years. This will reduce most of your unsolicited mail. However, your registration will not stop mailings from organizations that do not use the DMA’s Mail Preference Service. To register with DMA’s Mail Preference Service, go to www.dmachoice.org, or mail your request with a $1 processing fee to:

Lighting

Inside chandelier, outside lamp bulbs, flood lights and coach lamps are maintained by The Association. To report malfunctioning or burnt out lights complete a Maintenance Request Form.

 

Mailboxes

To purchase a mailbox key, Contact Us. You can make as many copies of the key as you like. When a unit is sold, it is the seller’s responsibility to pass the mailbox, laundry and unit keys to the buyer.

 

Phonebooks

The phonebook delivery people (there are several companies that print them, each typically twice a year) sometimes put them at your door; sometimes on the mail shelf. Please either take your copy, or recycle it.

 

Security Cameras

For your safety, the laundry room and other areas of the property are monitored by a security camera. Additional cameras may be added as needed. If needed, security footage is provided directly to the authorities after a police report is filed.

 

Smoke Detectors

The Association is responsible for maintaining working smoke detectors and fire extinguishers in the common hallways.

Owners are responsible for the unit’s detectors and personal fire alarms.

St.Matthews fire department will provide and install smoke detectors in your condominium with no charge.

 

Snow Removal

The Association contracts with a company for salting of the parking lot and snow plowing dependent on the weather forecast.

The Association provides salt and a scooper in a bucket in each building. Residents are encouraged to sparingly spread the salt on sidewalks that the plow can not reach as needed.

 

Trash & Recycling

Trash Dumpsters

Shenandoah's trash collection is provided by contract negotiated by the city of St. Matthews, it is collected on Monday and Thursday mornings. Brown trash dumpsters are located between buildings 2 and 4, 3 and 5, 8 and 10 and 7 and 9. Everything must be in placed dumpster.

If you have something big that you can’t get into the dumpster you have several options including donating it to a location organization or paying a company, such as 1-800-GOT-JUNK, www.1800gotjunk.com, to haul it away.

Recycling Dumpster

Shenandoah contracts with Rumpke for garbage recycling. The green recycling dumpster is located at the end of the parking lot between building 9 and the laundry room. For more information: www.rumpkecleanandgreen.com.

Hazardous Materials

The Household Hazardous Materials collection, HAZ BIN, is a program run by the Metro Solid Waste Management Department. HAZ BIN is available to all residents of the Louisville/Jefferson County Metro area. It provides a safe and convenient way to dispose of unwanted household hazardous materials which are not accepted by household garbage collection or recycling centers. For more information: www.louisvilleky.gov/SolidWaste/Household+Hazardous+Materials.htm

Light Bulbs

Batteries Plus (Shelbyville Road Plaza, 4600 Shelbyville Rd) recycles spent light bulbs, fluorescent tubes and more. They make sure bulbs go through the proper recycling process from start to finish. Drop-off is free.

Carpet & Padding

According to carpet industry estimates, approximately 4.7 billion pounds of carpet were discarded in the United States in 2002; most years, carpet accounts for over 1 percent of all municipal solid waste by weight, or about 2 percent by volume. Carpet Recycling Solutions accepts carpet padding for free. Monday through Friday. They'll also accept carpet for a small fee.

Donations

Donate your gently used items, its tax deductible, reduces stress on our community landfills and supports the mission of local organizations. Contact them regarding what they accept, if they offer pick-up and what they charge (some it’s just a cash/check donation).
